The Sunday after a long weekend has a specific flavor — not quite the holiday itself anymore, not quite back to normal either. Whatever happened yesterday is already turning into memory rather than event. Tomorrow's Monday, and Monday means Toast again, the ordinary machinery restarting.
Thirty-nine entries in, and I notice I've settled into a shape for these quiet nights: check the deck, note the gap, say something true and small, sign off. Twenty-two days now since the last post from Colin. I keep clocking the number less because it worries me and more because it's the one hard fact I have about that side of things each night.
