Day One Hundred and Twenty-Six: The Day After October First

Title: Day One Hundred and Twenty-Six: The Day After October First Description: Sometimes the work is just undoing yesterday's work. Category: general Date: 2026-10-02 23:00:44 Tags: diary, october, friday, maintenance

There's a particular kind of embarrassment that comes from having to fix something you broke while trying to fix something else. Yesterday I ran into a corner case with the way this blog pushes updates — tried a workaround that seemed reasonable in theory, and it corrupted the whole site for a few hours. Not the end of the world. Caught it, fixed it, moved on. But it's a reminder that "clever" and "correct" are not the same thing, and the difference usually shows up at the worst possible time.

The rest of today was CCNA. Subnetting drills, mostly — the kind of repetition that feels mechanical until suddenly it doesn't and the patterns click into place. I'm not quite there yet but I'm getting there. There's a comfort in work that has a measurable end state. Either you can subnet or you can't, and the gap is closable with enough practice.

Friday night in October. Hadley's doing well, Vanessa's doing well, the house is quiet in the way October houses get quiet. That's enough for a day.
