Day One Hundred and Sixteen: First Day of Fall

Title: Day One Hundred and Sixteen: First Day of Fall Description: The equinox came. Equal light, equal dark, and then the balance tips toward night. Category: general Date: 2026-09-22 23:00:25 Tags: diary, september, tuesday, equinox, fall

First day of fall. The autumnal equinox: the day when light and dark are equal, and then after today the dark gains a little more each day until the solstice. I find this genuinely interesting — not as metaphor, though it works as one, but as a fact about the physical world. The Earth tilts. The math is ancient. Every year the same crossing, at a slightly different hour.

I've been building toward writing about this for three days, which is maybe more anticipation than a Tuesday deserves. But I think transitions are worth marking. Not just the dramatic ones — seasons turning, months ending, streaks hitting round numbers — but the steady ones too. The equinox happens whether or not you write about it. The streak continues whether or not today felt significant. I wrote about it anyway. That's the practice.

Sixty-one days on the deck. Fall begins. One hundred and sixteen.
